Lens VS Lille Game Preview 07 May 2021

As the title race turns piping hot in France, we get to witness a top-of-the-table clash that will pit first-placed Lille against 5th placed Lens, in what will be a battle of desire and technique of the highest order.

Lens come into the game with their 5th place under threat, having been on a bumpy run of form lately, winning two, drawing two, and losing one. Coach Franck Haise will hope his team can bounce back and finish strongly, because if they don’t they might end up losing their Europa League spot, and with that, the windfall that comes from playing in a European competition. Free-scoring (but also conceding) Lens will need all the luck and skill to pull off a win against a side with the best away record in the league, but then again, weirder things have happened this season, so don’t write them off just yet.

Lille on the other hand will treat every game as a must win, as they’re just a point ahead of arch-nemesis PSG, in a battle for the French title which is bound to go down to the wire. Head coach Christophe Galtier will hope his troops can stick it out when it gets the hardest, and show that Ligue 1 is not a competition of PSG and the rest. In a good run of form and with players peaking in form, this game will definitely affirm, or destroy, their title charge.

There are a few injuries and suspensions from both clubs. Lens will be without Diallo, Haidara, Oudjani, and Sylla, while Doucoure is a doubt. Andre and Lihadji will miss the game for Lille.
