Newcastle United VS Man City Match Preview 13 May 2021

With the title race finished in the EPL, it’s time to focus on the interesting clashes in which we’ll see big go against small, and see if fringe players will get a chance to impress and maybe win themselves a squad spot for next season.

Newcastle united have struggled all year long, and currently sit in 16th, with 39 points from 36 games. They ensured EPL football for next season, and now it’s time to build on this. They have a good attacking record, but their defence has been shambles, mainly due to the absence of Lascelles. Head coach Steve Bruce will look for his troops to make a statement for both the statements and the competition with a win here, and show that the Newcastle of old is somewhere here.

Man City started off the season slowly, but a few crucial signings have made all the difference. They won the league, and are in the UCL final, so it’s fair to say that this is a very successful season for them. Pep Guardiola will hope his troops won’t suffer from complacency and throw games away, as he needs them to be fully ready and sharp for the final against Chelsea. Games like this are perfect for tinkering with formations and various tactics, and we’ll most likely see changes in the lineups and the tactics. Their recent form in the EPL is not that encouraging, but they’re the champions, so they can do whatever they want, right?

Injuries and suspensions have dogged both clubs throughout the season, but Man City have an almost clean bill of health. De Bruyne is the only possible absentee, as he’s racing against time to recover from a muscle injury, while Newcastle will be without Anderson, Darlow, Fraser, Hayden, Lascelles, Schar, and Wilson.
