Augsburg VS Koln Match Preview 23 April 2021

A bottom of the table clash between two relegation candidates is our pick of the Bundesliga. There’s no glamour nor flair around these two clubs, but there’s desire and fight in them, as they’ve shown on occasions this season.

Augsburg are currently 12th in the German league, with 33 points from 30 games, and are just 6 points above the zone that leads into the Bundesliga 2. But they can easily land themselves in hot water should they continue in their current form, in which they’ve won just one of their last five in the league, losing three and drawing one. A turn of fortunes is needed, and this game is the perfect one for them now.

Koln are languishing in the relegation zone with 26 points from 30 games, and they’ll need a miracle if they’re going to stay up. But is a comeback that crazy? Not really, as they managed to beat RB Leipzig in the previous match, something which will definitely serve as extra motivation to Friedhel Funkel’s troops. A cause for concern might be the treatment table, as some key players are missing, but if the prospect of relegation doesn’t motivate the players, then nothing will.

Augsburg will be without Civeja, Sarenren-Bazee, and Uduokhai for this match, while Andersson, Ehizibue, Jakobs, and Thielmann will miss the trip to Augsburg.

Considering previous encounters and the current form, FC Koln seem to have the upper hand, even if they’re visitors, but Augsburg have done better throughout the season. All in all, expect an exciting game and friction between both sets of players!
