England vs Austria Friendly Preview 02 June 2021

It’s the first game both teams have to play after having announced their 26 player roster for the Euros. Both managers had big decisions to make ahead of making the final cut, and this game wil let them hone their tactics and prepare properly for the upcoming tournament.

England are coming into this tie - and the tournament - as the favorites, all thanks to their fine showing at the World Cup three years ago, and their four-game winning streak. Gareth Southgate will look to either tinker with new formations and new positions for his players, or maybe just improve the teamwork on his established eleven. The Three Lions have big expectations to live up to, so it’s imperative for them to keep winning and perform at the highest level. Expect them to take the game to the Austrians from kick-off.

The Austrians are far from favorites in this tournament, despite their relatively easy group. Manager Franco Foda will want to get his best 11 out tonight and cause an upset - something which will serve as a motivation for his players ahead of the Euros. Their recent form is far from encouraging, having won two games, drawn two, and lost one - losing their last 4:0 at the hands of Denmark.

As this is just a friendly, there are no suspensions, but there are players that will miss the tie due to injury. Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford will not be risked here for England, while Arnautovic and Onisiwo will surely miss it through injury, Ilsaner through sickness, but captain Baumgartlinger was back in training, and might be called into the first eleven, or at least the bench.

England vs Austria Friendly Preview

Tune in to see one of the Euros favorites go head to head against minnows, in a game that will surely answer a lot of questions about how both teams will approach the Euros - or maybe even spring new ones, should either team fail to perform as expected.
