Five gambling movies on Netflix

Casino

The casino was released in 1995 and is the earliest gambling movie on this list. It is directed by Martin Scorsese who stars Robert De Niro as oddsmaker Sam “Ace” Rothstein.

The plot of the movie is centred around Sam who attracts the attention of the Mafia. Once they reach him, they hire him for their casino, the Tangiers, in Las Vegas.

While in Las Vegas, a woman, Ginger Mckenna, catches his attention and they fall in love.

If you are looking for a movie with mafia, money skimming, FBI and Nevada politics within a casino environment, this is for you.

Uncut Gems

Adam Sandler stars in this gambling movie released in 2019. He plays Howard Rattner, a jeweller who loves sports betting. Unfortunately, his love for sports betting gets him into huge debt.

Howard tries to “go big or go home” by placing an enormous bet. The bet could either help him pay his debt in full or lose everything.

The plot plays on the dark side of gambling about chasing losses that could get you into threatening circumstances.

Ocean's Trilogy

The Ocean’s movies are a trilogy consisting of Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen. The main character is played by Frank Ocean played by George Clooney.

Frank is a criminal planning to take on the greatest casino heists in Las Vegas. He hires a team of bandits including Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts to help him with this heist for a slice of the loot.

Win It All

Have you heard of bankroll management? Well, in this movie, it all goes out the window for Eddie Garrett played by Jake Johnson.

Unfortunately, Jake loses his entire bankroll in no time. What makes it even worse is that the money is not his.

Rather than stop there, he chooses to have a go at high-stakes poker with the hope of retrieving the lost money. While the movie does not have several gambling scenes, it's worth the watch for the thrill.

21

A team of students embarks on a mission to take over Las Vegas casinos. How? By winning at blackjack. This blackjack team of students from top US universities learns how to count cards with the help of a professor from MIT.

Everything is going well until it isn’t.

The movie is based on real events except for the professor who trains them.

Conclusion

Gambling movies have seen major success in Hollywood with titles including 21, Uncut Gems, Ocean’s Trilogy, Casino and Win It All. These movies not only give you an eye into the world of casinos but also a thrilling plotline that will keep not just players but any movie enthusiast glued to their seats while watching gambling movies on Netflix.
