RB Leipzig VS Hoffenheim Game Preview 16 April 2021

Fixture 29 in the German Bundesliga kicks off with RB Leipzig taking on Hoffenheim in what can be one of the crucial games of the season for both teams. RB Leipzig hope to close the gap to Bayern Munchen to two points, while Hoffenheim will look to avert disaster and finish strongly in what has been an underwhelming season for a team that finished 6th last season.

The Leipzig side come into the game in a somewhat mixed run of form, after losing out to Bayern two weeks ago, and also getting dumped out of the Champions League by Liverpool. Julian Nagelsman’s troops now have only the Bundesliga to play for, and will hope to dethrone the Bavarians come season end. They boast the best defensive record in the league, and that should be enough of an indicator to show that they’re ready to pounce to any mistake the Bundesliga leaders do.

Hoffenheim are having a disaster of a season, currently finding themselves in 11th place in the league - a big disappointment considering lots was expected from them. Give their bad run of form, there are fears in the club and among pundits that they might end up in the relegation zone come the finish, as they’re only 5 points above the spots that lead to Bundesliga 2. Their away form is not optimistic, but then again, streaks are made to be broken.

Injuries have plagued both squads throughout the season, and for this game, Nagelsman will have to do without the services of Kluivert and teen-sensation Szoboszlai. Hoeness has a long list of absentees and will hope understudies and reserves might jump at the chance to grab the headlines for themselves.
